UPSC: Geologists Examination, 2011

A competitive examination for recruitment to the following posts will be held by the Union Public Service Commission commencing from the 3rd December, 2011 in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India dated the 20th August, 2011

Category I: For Geological Survey of India 

Junior Geologist, Group A Assistant Geologist, Group B 

Category II: For Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) at selected centres in India

Jr. Hydrogeologist, Group A 
Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group B 

Eligibility:

• Master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology OR
• Master’s degree in Mineral Exploration (for posts in Geological Survey of India only), or Master’s degree in Hydrogeology (for posts in central ground water board only) from a recognized university OR
• Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad Those studying in final year Degree Course and have yet to pass final year degree exam can also apply.

Age limit: 21-31 years as on January 1, 2011

Exam duration: 3 days

Selection process: On the basis of written test followed by an interview.

Exam pattern: Written test (3 hours duration)

It will be in the essay format and consists of five papers. Following are the written test topics:

• General English – 100 marks
• Geology Paper 1 – 200 marks
• Geology Paper 2 – 200 marks
• Geology Paper 3 – 200 marks
• Hydrogeology – 200 marks

Personal interview: It carries 200 marks.

Note: The candidates who apply for the post of geologist need not attempt the Hydrogeology paper. The candidates who apply for the Hydro geologist post will have to attend all the papers except the Geology paper 3.

Application Fee: 

Offline application fee: Rs 100 through central recruitment fee stamp only

Online application fee: Rs 50 ither by remitting the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/Master credit/debit card.
