Views about TCS:
TCS offers two months of initial program of rigorous training for all those who do not have industry experience. This training is self learning process followed by many tests. One requires to pass these test with at least 60%. Training period is like paid holidays. Looking at current situation onsite opportunities are less and also bench time is certainly increased. But TCS still providing opportunities for Onsite as many TCSiers has been went onsite specially those associated with European Banks' Project. TCS culture is well known in industry and they focus in development of their employees.
Onsite opportunities: Depends on several things like requirements, project realization, company policies, etc. There are certain projects which have 100% onsite resource allocation and some others which have 100% offshore. At onsite, you are paid around $3000 per month (rough figure) when you are on deputation. Again, it depends on the place you are deputed. Onsite does not mean US only. It can be UK, China or South America as well. So, the compensation depends on the location as well. Duration of onsite deputation depends purely on your project requirements.
Views about the company: The training program offered by TCS is quite renowned in industry. TCS with is history of oldest IT organization in India is well reputed (after all they have brand TATA) and considered for high growth of employees. Having TCS experience worth a big name in Industry. Compensation package is low at TCS. In current scenario TCS is not looking for any increment or appraising salaries of employees. Don't sponsor management degree in any form. In nutshell TCS is a Semi- government type organization.
Recommendations: For people who like to start career in IT: "YES". TCS is a working place with routine job, big name, good work culture but average salary.
