PhD in Basic Sciences at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre(BARC)

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) started in 1954, as the Atomic Energy Establishment, is India's primary nuclear research facility based in Mumbai. It has a number of nuclear reactors, all of which are used for India's nuclear power and research programme.

Programme: Fellowship-based PhD programmes in Science discipline

Fellowships: A limited no. of Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs), awarded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), will be offered to those selected for PhD programme.

What it offers: The fellowship amount will be Rs. 16000/- pm for the first two years and Rs. 18000 pm for subsequent years. A few meritorious candidates may be offered DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme-PhD (DGFS- PhD) Fellowship. It carries a fellowship of Rs. 20000/- pm in the first year and Rs. 24000/- pm in succeeding years.

Duration: Four years

Eligibility: Those having M.Sc. in Physics/Chemistry/Biology or related science subjects with minimum 60% marks in MSc as well as in BSc are eligible to apply. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have a valid GATE Score in their respective subjects.

Selection process: Written Test followed by a selection Interview of shortlisted candidates. Screening for Physical, Chemical and Life Sciences shall be on the basis of one ot the following:

• GATE-2011/ GATE-2012 score
• Written Test-2012 score of the BARC Training School

BARC Training School Written Test: It is conducted for short listing of candidates for interviewing to give admission in BARC Training School (BARC TS). Those who have also applied for DGFS-2012 programme of the BARC TS must state their BARC TS application no. on the application form.
