The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February, 1982 under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982).

Eligibility:

• Two years full time teaching experience on temporary / permanent basis as primary / gradudate / post-graduate teachers in a primary / secondary / matriculation / higher secondary school recognized by the State / Central government. The required teaching experience of two years must have been completed on or before the last date of submitting the application. Truncated two years full-time teaching experience in the same or more than one school with or with out break will also be considered.
   
• The teacher should be in service at the time of submitting the application.
   
• The teacher should have secured minimum eligible mark in the Bachelor's degree as: OC - 50% marks, BC - 45% marks, MBC - 43% marks, SC - 40% marks
   
• The teacher should have undergone 10+2+3 or 11+1+3 pattern of study and passed the school level examinations conducted by the respective state board or CBSE or any other recongnized board of eduction / examination and under-graduate degree examinations conducted by UGC recognised universities in any one of the school subjects offered by the Directorate of School Education at the Secondary / Higher Secondary Education level and included as an optional subject.

Application form: The application form and propsectus can be obtained from the School of Distance Education, Bharatiar University, Coimbatore - 641046 on submitting a request with a crossed Demand Draft from any Nationalised Bank for Rs.500/- drawn in favour of the Director, School of Distance Education payable at Coimbatore.
